Eligibility:

Serves homeless individuals with children and homeless families with children. A family is anyone who has legal custody of their child. Individuals are considered homeless if they are living in places not meant for human habitation. in emergency shelters, or would be living on the streets without assistance.

Description:

Assist families in the transition from homelessness, enabling them to live as independently as possible through the provision of supportive housing. Can accommodate up to twelve families providing housing in apartments and single-family homes located throughout a thirteen county area of Upper East TN. Through lease agreements supported by the program, families are able to live on their own up to 24 months with Catholic Charities providing rent assistance to each of the families for a two year period. The goal of transitional housing is to facilitate movement of the families for the families to permanent housing. Within the 24 month transitional period residents either gain employment or complete training/school in order to ensure continued stability for their families. They develop a plan in which they will be able to continue to rent on their own using their own funds. In order to foster the families in their ability to budget future housing cost, 30 percent of the family’s monthly income is collected for investment in their future. This money is applied toward such need as family debt and/or a savings account for future permanent housing cost incurred during the time in this program.
